Post-Acute Care

LTAC hospitals are often said to be part of the “post-acute” continuum of care. Other post-acute providers include rehabilitation hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and home healthcare. ALTHA supports the principle that patients should be cared for in the most appropriate setting.

The post-acute continuum, although not perfect, represents a rational progression of care. ALTHA strongly supports the principle that each healthcare provider in the post-acute sector plays a critical and distinct role in meeting the needs of the patient population. Working together with other providers, LTAC hospitals help make a coherent whole of the post-acute spectrum of care.
